Residents have been allowed to return to their homes. As part of precautionary measures, some 4,000 people were evacuated, and traffic on main road 6 and railway services were stopped in Budafok, head of the metropolitan government office, Péter Domokos, said.
More than 900 people were involved in the operation, including police, military, and disaster management staff, as well as employees of the government officials and the local council, he added.
The two US bombs weighing one tonne each were initially spotted last October but the low level of water in the Danube made it impossible to move them before today’s operation.
